Building Tips

Quick answers to the questions we hear most at the counter.

A gallon typically covers 350-400 sq ft with one coat. Measure your wall height x width, subtract doors and windows, then divide by 350 to get a safe estimate. Always buy a little extra for touch-ups and a second coat on darker colors.
Porcelain is your best bet for showers, bathroom floors, and outdoor patios — it absorbs almost no water and handles temperature changes well. Ceramic is fine for lower-moisture areas like kitchen backsplashes, but skip it for anything that sits in standing water.
Concrete sets enough to walk on within 24-48 hours, but full curing takes about 28 days. Keep it damp for the first week if you can — covering with plastic sheeting helps it cure evenly and reduces cracking.
For essentials only — fridge, a few lights, fans, and charging devices — a 2000-3000W unit is usually enough. If you want to run a small A/C unit or a water pump too, look at 5000W and up. Add up the running watts of what you need, then leave some headroom for startup surges.
Start with a center punch or awl to make a small dimple where you want to drill — it gives the bit somewhere to bite instead of skating across the surface. Start slow, apply steady pressure, and let the bit do the work rather than forcing it.
